THE VIDEOS

8 Bars Behind Bars

The concept of the video 8 Bars Behind Bars is quite controversial, filmed from the perspective of Omar (our lead character in the Hip Hop Opera) - he contemplates revenge on a rival gang. However, the perils of his actions are played out in his subconscious thought process – he trips back to prison where 21 grime MC’s wearing the infamous orange boiler suits spit profound lyrics about their life in prison and how gun culture has not only ruined the lives of others but also rendered them incarcerated.

A Mother's Ballad

The lead song in the Don’t Trigger Campaign is A Mothers Ballad. Four of the country’s top vocalists are filmed singing this heart rendering rendition that encapsulates the loss of loved ones that depicts too many Mothers. The filming is dark and moody and uses cut aways of real mothers carrying pictures of their loved ones.

Feng Shui

Respect

The first video on the face of it may not appear to have much to do with gun crime – filmed in the Ministry of Sound in a fictious night club called “Double Barrel Night Life” – this video contains all the stereotypical ingredients of a club tune – fleshy girls, macho guys and sexist lyrics. The hook line sung by Soul Deep takes reference from Arethea Franklin’s respect – which is stark contrast to the behaviour of Don-E as he shows a total disrespect for Rachel. The consequence of which eventually leads to more than one fatality.

Don't Trigger

Don’t Trigger the title song to the campaign sends a powerful message to those who are either in the gun game or about to be seduced into it. The sub plot in this video is about conflict resolution as it explores three situations which young people have said are common examples of points of conflict.

Say You're Ok

This video was inspired by West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet.  A boy realises his actions have endangered the life of his girlfriend – we watch the story unravel as he tries to warn her of the impending danger. Will he get to her in time?

Testify

The track was written by Chanelle Campbell with an understanding that it would be part of the plot for the Hip Hop Opera. Shot in the Heygate Estate – Elephant and Castle, London. The idea was that the backdrop would represent any estate – all the concrete jungles that incarcerate and suffocate communities. As well as the UK’s top reggae artists showing unity against gun crime the video is intercut with anti-gun marches to demonstrate that this is a national concern and does not just impact the immediate victims it effects the whole of society.

London

London is a bonus track for the campaign that was written before we devised the campaign. Produced by Feng Shui is one of those tracks has subliminal anti-gun message hidden within the depths of lyrics which explore the harsh realities of living in the ends. For those who don’t know a place which young people believe has been overlooked by the local government.
